W14.What did I learn in this course?

W14. What did I learn in this course?

I have learned lots of things from this course and professor, Mr. Piotr.
I would like thank professor for teaching how to use Wikipedia and other
important things which I need to know.

First, I found that Wikipedia is very fun. When I edited articles last year,
I didn't feel interested in Wikipedia. But now I feel interested in Wikipedia.
I think the reason is that I use Wikipedia well than last year and know more about it.

Second, I learned that the crowd's power is stronger than technology.
I am proud of being a Wikipedian now.

Third, I could learn many interesting concepts like free culture, free license.
But still I am a little confused in getting the concepts. Because they are pretty
similar to me.

Four, I think we need to study about Korean Wikipedia more and we need to
find out why Wikipedia in Korea don't have enough users and activities than other
societies.

and finally Teds which we watched in courses were very helpful to understand collective intelligence and new social issues.

W13. Can Wikipedia disappear?

Topic: Can Wikipedia disappear?

I think Wikipedia will transform not disappear. Many people say that Social Network Service like Facebook will disappear in some years and some of SNS service actually disappear or decline, but still SNS exist. Because SNS is a communication channel and one of its functions is to share information and increase collective intelligence.
I believe that when people make together and share their opinion and information,
a site will last for somewhat long. Wikipedia is basically best place for collective
intelligence and there is no any sites which substitute Wikipedia.
Also Wikipedia has pretty long history and users. But there is any chance to change
Wikipedia's form and rule.

W14. blog post

1. This article organize about what we have learned for this semester. It talks about from the first article of jigsaw puzzle to meaning of neutral, good faith, collaboration and so on. And it foresee wiki to change and develop.

2. Q. What did I learn in this course?
    A. In this course, I learned about how to use wiki well. Before I have this class, I just think wiki is completion. Because already there were so much information that I didn't know. But after I edit some articles of particle subject, I found wiki is growing up now. And we also utilize wiki to have jobs, too. Still I am amateur of wiki, however I will have interest in wiki and update more interesting knowledge.

3. This is our last blog post. Thank you for teaching us, professor~^^ There were just 4 people in class, but I can learn better because we have less people in class.

W13. blog post

1. This article explains about many kinds of common criticism in wiki. Some problems of wiki are listed in here. And 7 reading material also write about criticism to wiki about collaborative practice, universal vision, encyclopedic impulse and technological inspiration.

2.  Q. Can Wikipedia disappear?
A. I think wiki will not disappear. Because it is accumulation of people's knowledge. So it will become bigger and bigger as the time goes. Wiki is made with past fact and present issue. Therefore present issue will become past time and new present issue will be wrote in wiki. Wiki will change to perfect thing.

3. How to see number of visitors? Can we see total statistic?

W12. blog post

1. This chapter explains about leadership of benevolent dictator. The cofounders of wiki are Larry sanger and Jimmy Wales. Wales who is owner of Internet content and search company hired Sanger in February 2000 to start Nupedia project. Wales leadership is central to find vision, active and contribute of collaborative norms. Larry Sanger was editor of Nupedia and be known as the chief organizer of Wiki. From these two cofounder, We need new responsibility and balance.

2. I think ordinary people who use wiki need some instruction of leadership. Because wiki is used and made by ordinary people. Before they use this, they have to learn about 'regard(solicitude)' in wikipedia.

3. Not regarding in offline about society will affect in online environment. How will it act?

W11. blog post

1. In this chapter, he talks about the difficulties of consensus to make decision, meaning  and practice for collaboration. It have trouble when there are disambiguation and rough. To make perfect consensus, we need deliberation, openness, time, precedence and facilitator, polling, voting. Wiki is example of a means of community decision making. Especially, its openness makes a new salience to the challenges of consensus practice.

2. It's hard to make perfect consensus. But if we endeavor to make this well, it will be fill people's need to make consensus. By collecting their own effort, the world of wiki will become everyone's opinion.

3. However, if there is only consensus, people's characteristic will be undervalued. How to prevent this?

W12: Discuss Reagle’s chapter 6

A) Wikipedia was started by Wales and Sanger and Its first try was 'NuPedia'.
Nupedia was run by experts which eventually led to be not active. So Wales and Sanger came up with Wikipedia that anyone is able to participate in. However, there was a serious discussion about leadership. Wikipedia is based on voluntary activity and collaborative movement, but they believe that Wikipedia need balanced leadership which is between authorial and benevolent.

B) I am not sure if I understood this context well. However, I realized that even if Wikipedia is open source and free space, it basically needs a certain formed leadership.

C)I think that it would be a interesting topic to discuss how leadership of Wikipedia works in Korea.
